On The Road To Wakarusa Festival!

It’s 7am and I’m half asleep. The caffeine in my much anticipated United Airlines coffee isn’t as strong as they make it back home, however at this hour anything will suffice. It’s been one hell of a week. Our Official After Party for Canada’s largest premier surf competition, The Rip Curl Pro, went off without a hitch after the amalgamated undo stresses of several sleepless nights and months of planning. Here’s to our next adventure.

My alarm sounded at 3:20am and in my true form, I arrived at the Vancouver Airport with just over an hour to catch my flight. To my surprise the check in line was full of hopeful young travelers, most of whom are heading to Austin Texas to compete and spectate at the X Games. I rolled into my boarding gate and walked directly onto the plane.

So here I am. Highly anticipating my experience at Wakarusa Festival in Arkansas over the next week. I’ve never been this far south in the US and can’t wait to share this experience with Kora and our good friends Nick, Duncan and Cole from The Funk Hunters, Tucker (The Festival Guy) and Steve and John from Fort Knox Five. Festivals no doubt bring friends together, but as we attend and cover more and more of these things, you find yourself reconnecting with the gems of the larger music community.

Wakarusa is a multi-genre festival and should be commended for their lineup. On my radar this year is of course BASSNECTAR, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Xavier Rudd, John Butler Trio, The Mowgli’s, Nahko Medicine for the People, Penguin Prison, D.V.S. and a list so long you might as well check the lineup page. I love the diversity of the music and can’t wait for tomorrow. I’m also highly anticipating the art installations and live performances which have received a lot of attention for their imaginative and mind bending properties. In my mind, the visual art at festivals is just as important as the music.

We will keep everyone updated during Wakarusa through our social channels and blog. Stay tuned…we brought the Jaguar Lounge and have rented a 35 foot RV bus. Time to get real.
